How to Mix & Match Dining Chairs (Plus 8 Beautiful Combos) — Mix & Match Design Company

What do you prefer? A combination of different dining chairs or a matching set? The answers varied for sure, but the majority seemed to love a mix. Personally, I think there’s a place for both…

Chairs used to sit at a dining table are known as dining room chairs. Chairs with armrests are called armchairs and are placed at the head and foot of the table, while chairs without armrests are placed as side chairs along the length of a rectangular table. With a square or round table, all chairs should be armchairs or side chairs. Dining chairs can be fully or partially upholstered. In the case of a fully upholstered chair, the backrest and the seat are upholstered with fabric or leather, while in the case of a partially upholstered chair the back or the seat are covered with fabric. An unpadded chair is made of wood, metal, tube or plastic with a removable padded seat and back cushion. These chairs are more durable, but less comfortable than their counterparts. Another point to consider is the arm height of the dining room chairs. The height of the table should be at least 10-12 inches higher than the seat height of the chair. The height of the armchairs should be such that they slide comfortably under the table. Always choose upholstery for dining room chairs that are both durable and dirt-repellent, as they have to tolerate spilled food and drinks over the years. Various chairs are available, including a Parsons dining chair, a French-style Berg-Ere chair, a ladder back, a Chippendale chair, and Windsor chairs. Before you buy dining room chairs, you need to make sure they are comfortable as it is at the dining table that a family is sitting together to eat and have a good time.
